I was prescribed Xanax when i was 14. Life was pretty fd
up with my parents divorce, also at school, and with the
girl i liked at that time. I was having panic attacks
while sleeping and waking up forced with the sensation of
suffocating. That led me to the doctor. I refused to take
those because i wanted to face my problems alone. And i
did. Listening to JP's story i realised that might have
been the best decission i ever made, because my life is
really beautifull in many fundamental aspects today, at 21
                      years old.

Getting off on benzos is a very hard step forward after so
long. I've almost lost my brother to suicide as well as
myself. I've lost most of my adolescence to being either
blacked out intoxicated or incarcerated and rehabilitated.
It took me going to prison by 18 to wake up

I took 30 mg diazepam for about 12 years. Then I abruptly
stopped thinking I didn’t need it anymore and had to go to
the ER. They instructed me to go back on so I was taking
10 mg daily. It cost me my marriage as it was very very
difficult. I then started taking 5 mg daily for 3 years.
It was about 2 months ago I made a huge effort to get off
these for good. I lowered my dosage by 1 mg every 2 weeks.
You will feel it, for me it was mostly nausea and stomach
pains, feeling like a zombie, but try to push through.
Don’t feel bad if you have to go backwards your body just
isn’t ready yet. Currently I’m at just 1 mg and my body
has adjusted for the most part but we all have good days
and bad ones. Remember that EVERYONE has good days and
bad, not just us getting off benzos. I love you all

Amazing to see how Dr Peterson even analyzes what he has
been through, even going back to when he was a kid.
Speaking about it in an honest intelligent professional

To those who don't know, he developed a physical addiction
to the benzodiazepines that he was prescribed by his
doctor for anxiety. It tragically happens to millions of
people around the world all the time. Now cynical people
with an axe to grind say he's a junkie because he's in
recovery, but the fact that he's taking control of his
situation is, in my opinion, a demonstration that he is
following his own advice. A "clean room" is a process, not
                      an event.

i'm 24 and i've developed a benzos dependency over the
past year because it really helps with my anxiety. I
breathe like a normal human when i take them every
night,it's the only thing that puts me to sleep. I've
recently increased my dosage and can't go day without it
because it feels like death but at the same time i know i
need to get off it because it's also been giving me nasty
side-effects. I feel like a zombie and i struggle to put
thoughts together, i used to have a great memory but
everything's just foggy now. i also feel very suicidal at
                      times,it just comes out of nowhere. i love life . i'm 24
and starting a very important phase in my life (Building
my life, career etc.) I hope i get through this and this
isn't the end for me. Got big ass dreams im chasing.

Touchy subject. I’ve taken them as needed since I was just
11 for panic attacks and travel anxiety. They truly help
and I am not addicted. I haven’t taken one in over 5
months. Some people are more prone to abusing them,
similarly to alcohol. Don’t get me wrong, it’s one of the
most terrifying drug addictions out there, but they are
relevant and needed for some people.

Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson I have been listening to your
podcasts since Covid hit and the lockdowns and it’s helped
learn a little bit, and some other guests have inspired me
to get off the benzos and get back to normal, but I gotta
say it’s been the toughest thing probably mentally and
physically in my life. I’m going thru withdrawal right
now. I’m going down every couple days to .006/.003 of a
mg, then I try to stop and the demons just are brutal, and
my body is completely unregulated. I get chills at all hrs
of the day and cramps in my feet that I have to stomp to
free the cramp. I don’t sleep for 48 hrs and hallucinating
and perception is discomforting beyond what I can explain.
I know that’s they are hallucinations and what’s going on,
and I’ll go days but it just is non stop. I then have to
try again and again and again. This has been going on for
months. It’s just me and my son so rehab isn’t an option
and not really necessary but I think about it. But it will
take much longer than a normal 28 day stay at a facility.
I think I’m gonna get through it, but the headaches almost
feel like it’s going to be a seizure at some point or
stroke. A lot of people take them it’s a serious problem.
I would’ve never in 1 million years taken even one if I
knew it would be like this trying to get off of them, a
prescribed medication. You can also get a DUI for them if
your in an accident and the cops want to blood test you.
                      It’s totally fuct up.

Real mixed feelings about benzos, they honestly pulled me
out of a major depression that I might not have come out
of alive, I was able to maintain a job and work towards a
rewarding career without being bogged down by my anxiety
and depression. On the other hand the tendency to abuse
them was pretty high...Ultimately the inability to
maintain a constant supply without possibly going to jail
for illegal possession and the fear I could go into
seizures if I couldn't locate a constant supply led me to
wean off them. I still think about them anytime life gets
unbearable...doctors simply will not prescribe them long
term anymore though, and SSRI's have never done anything
good for me so I just grit my teeth and bear it.

Two great brains together. I have spent 50yrs plus in the
health industry. I have had two husbands affected by
pharmaceutical drugs, the first was a pharmacist, he was
taking uppers and downers through the 70s and 80s. The
second was hooked on benzos. It was too late in both cases
                      to repair the damage

                      I'm 31... 16 years ago i began benzos. FOR THE PAST 16
YEARS, I continued using every day. UNTIL 3 MONTHS AGO.
I've tried many times to quit. Yet my anxiety just got
worse. March 8, 2022 I began inpatient rehab. Again... I
was scared ive never been so scared in my life. As time
went on I for first time began to heal. Im sober. And it
will be a fight until I die, an old man. Thank you for
                      reading this.

I quit a lifelong addiction to benzos (valium, klonopin,
xanax) almost 2 years ago and it has been the worst
experience of my life. I've become a chronic insomniac
(clinically diagnosed) and get about 4 hours of sleep a
night many nights. I just haven't given up because I know
Ill never be able to quit again but it just doesn't get
any easier over time. I feel Ive done permanent damage I
can not heal from and I'm stuck like this. Don't make my
                      mistake! Don't start!

I was once on klonopine. Took very small doses for almost
a year. Had to stop for some reason and I was fine no
relapse or anything like that as others would say. Maybe
it's partly cause I was soo used to being stressed that
when the sensation came back it wasn't something I felt I
couldn't handle. I think when you plan to stop taking
benzos you have to be mentally prepared ACCEPT what you're
                      about to go through.

I know someone that went through it and Benzodiazepine
withdrawal is worse than Heroin withdrawal. You could die
from a seizure and the withdrawals last for a while. It’s
hell on earth. I’m really glad Jordan pulled through. He’s
                      an amazing human being.

I was admitted to a hospital a month after being
prescribed these drugs 19 years ago. As a minor. The Drs.
rolled their eyes and said I was being dramatic as I
withdrew off them for 3 weeks. Put on 30 pounds in a
month. Wasn’t allowed to go outside for two weeks. I
remember the feeling of sunlight for the first time.
Can’t imagine being on them for years.

I’ve seen so many close friends and family struggle with
addiction to benzodiazepines. It’s very sad to see because
it can literally break a person. Very glad to see dr
Peterson back again. A blessing indeed
